Vol.6 Tadanori Yokoo, Julian Schnabel, and Herbie Fletcher

I don't remember when it was, but when I went to Tadanori Yokoo's house for an interview, I was curious about the picture on the mantlepiece, and Yokoo said, "It's Julian Schnabel, this picture is my favorite," and Yokoo looked at me.

I was about to say, "Julian Schnabel is a surfer," but he didn't say.

Maybe it's because I suddenly thought about when I was working in Tokyo a long time ago, when surfers were not yet recognized like today.

When I was an assistant to photographer Bruce Osbourne, famous hair and makeup artists and stylists asked me about my usual job and said, "Yes, I'm a surfing photographer," and I said, "What Re? The reaction was normal, so I guess I thought it was useless to say it at this time.

Mr. Yokoo's image was that he didn't talk much, and there was a somewhat awkward atmosphere during the shooting. I thought I had to get out of this state somehow, so I said, "The curtain in the back is good, isn't it?" I got a random answer, "This is Indian, isn't it?" I took the plunge and said, "Please show your face through the gap in the curtain. When I said, "Senka," he showed his face with a smile, and I thought he was a surprisingly good person.

My favorite artist, Julian Schnabel, is a big legend who lived at the same time as Andy Warhall and Basquia, and he is a real surfer. In the movie "Basquia" he made, there was a scene where the waves of the pipeline suddenly appeared. I was surprised, but I felt indescribable happiness. Lou Reed's live stage back art was also worked on by him, and it's really bad.

Surfing legend Harvey Fletcher is also a person who has drawn wonderful tracks not only for the sea but also for the waves of art. I'm playing with Julian Schnabel in a secret club called the "Blind Girl Surf Club". They are big names, but they look like an eternal boy.

A few years ago, I had the opportunity to interview Julian Schnabel, who came to Japan for the promotion of the film "Gogh" he directed, so I took my photo book with Harvey.

When I showed him the picture before the shoot, he was very happy and let me take a picture with the skeg I had prepared in my hand. It was the best time with the feeling of "Only surfer knows the filling".
